bugs

On Saturday the 13th of March, my wife and I went into O’C's located in Avon, Indiana. We were greeted cordially and seated promptly. After sitting in the booth for a while, we noticed ants crawling on us and the table. We also noticed ants crawling along the window sill. We informed the waiter who promptly found us a new table and apologized for the ants.

After we were relocated, we placed our order. We ordered our drinks and a quesadilla appetizer. Drinks were delivered and we placed our order for our dinners. The salads with the dinners were delivered before the appetizer we ordered. Halfway through eating my salad, I noticed the lettuce being real dry in my mouth. I pulled the lettuce out to find a tissue. A tissue that people use to blow their noses was mixed into my salad! If the tissue was used or not I do not know. At that time I was so mad I yelled at the waiter. He said he apologized and would go and get the manager. I replied forget getting the manager… we are done here! This is disgusting I said.

We started on our way out of the restaurant. The manager was following us. I spoke with him and all he could really do is apologize for the situation. At that time apologies were just not good enough. I was furious. And I am still very upset with the situation. I am also sending a report to the Local Health department and BBB. Things like this should never, NEVER, happen in a business. Our experience at that restaurant was a disgusting and unhealthy one.

Forgetful Waitress

January 14, 2010

in Server Stories

Me and my girlfriend love to eat Asian cuisine. We decided to go to a new Asian restaurant near where I live because we have both heard good news about it, and so we both assumed it was good… boy, were we wrong though.

It all started when we came through the front doors of the place. There was only one other couple eating there – it was practically empty, but there were no hosts or hostesses to even seat us for about 10 minutes, until we both decided to go to the kitchen and ask in a firm tone, “We’d like to be seated, please!” Turns out all the employees were together, gathered in the kitchen, having some long conversation instead of tending to customers.

We were finally seated, and shortly afterwards the waitress took our orders. Half an hour had passed while we were waiting for our food, and by this time only my girlfriend had received her food.

On a side note, we both saw ants, flies, and mosquitoes crawl and buzz around the place on multiple occasions.

By the time my girlfriend had almost finished her food, I still hadn’t received my order. I went up to a waitress, politely saying, “Excuse me, I had ordered food quite some time ago, and I was wondering if it was ready yet.” The waitress seemed confused and asked me, “You ordered something?” A bit angered by what she said, I told her, “Yes, I did, I ordered…” and I told her what I had wanted. She told me that she was going to get my meal started and delivered to me as soon as possible.

After my girlfriend had finished her meal, the waitress then brought us our drinks which were just cans of warm pop, with no ice to go with the cups she gave us. I asked her if we could have ice; she agreed to do so, but never brought us any.

By the time we both got sick of sipping on our warm drinks, we decided to leave and I decided that I could just get my meal in a doggy bag. My girlfriend asked for the bill; it noted that I was charged for my meal that I didn’t get. I went up to the same waitress and asked if my meal was even done yet. Again, she gave me a puzzled look, but then realized on the spot and spoke aloud, “Oh! I forgot to tell the chef to make your meal! Do you want to wait a little bit longer?” I then told her to just forget it because I was tired of waiting.

I paid for my drink, and I told them that I was not going to pay for a meal that I did not get. The waitress was confused and a bit angered that I wasn’t going to pay for something on the bill that was given to me and even said that I would be charged with theft.

Really angered at this point, I told her to just “go ahead and try” and both me and my girlfriend left the place.

I’m never going back there again!

A few years ago my family decided to take me out for Mother’s Day Brunch. Since they did not make reservations anywhere and I wanted everyone to be able to get what they liked, we chose what I’ll call the “Yellow Round-Up.”

It was an unusually warm Spring day and half of the restaurant did not have air-conditioning and the side that did was packed. We sat in the warm side and decided to make the best of it.

I started with a salad and after eating half of it I discovered a dead lady bug lying in the lettuce. I brought it to the attention of our server who really only cleaned away the dirty plates since this was a buffet-style restaurant. He looked at it and only said, “Sorry.” I understood they were busy so I just pushed it aside and went on to something else.

After choosing my dinner and getting a roll I went to get butter from the buffet table on the non-air conditioned side. I looked in the crock and the butter was completely melted. May have been good for lobster but not for rolls.

I went back to the table with my family and my daughter whispered she needed to use the restroom. I pointed it out to her and after she came back she said she had slipped and fallen because the floor in the ladies room was wet. I went to check it out and the floor was tiled and actually had condensation on it from the lack of air conditioning. She was not hurt so we let it go.

I returned back to the table with the family which was in a half walled-in area with a small space between the walls for entering/exiting the dining area to the buffet. I got up to go back to the buffet for something but I could not leave. The heat must have gotten to someone and they had vomited all over the carpet in the enter/exit area. Which meant we were sort of trapped where we were until they could clean it up which took forever since they were so busy and it appeared no one (and I can’t blame them!) wanted to clean it.

Once we were able to leave I went back to the buffet to get my son some ice cream. He wanted the various sprinkles and such on top. When we got to the crock with the chocolate-covered-raisins I just had to laugh. At this point I didn’t know what else to do! The crock was nothing but chocolate syrup and raisins sitting at the bottom from the heat.

I told the manager before we left of all the misadventures we endured during our visit and he just shrugged and said, “We told you the air conditioning wasn’t working in half the restaurant and you chose to sit there anyway.” I did write to the corporate office a few days later just to let them know of my experience on what should have been a special and pleasant Mother’s Day. They explained that they would forward my complaint the manager. Needless to say, I never heard from the manager and I knew I would not. We have not been back to this particular “Yellow Round-Up” and it has since closed down.

After a hectic week, my husband and I were looking forward to having a romantic dinner at a Thai restaurant, nibbling on tangy food and whispering sweet nothings to each other. The candle on our table glowed softly in the darkened dining room, creating a perfect atmosphere for a sensuous night of romance.

Much to our shock, we discovered that we had dinner guests accompanying us – dozens of them! Creepy, icky roaches scurried about the table top, peering at us behind the plates and silverware. The mood turned immediately from romance to horror. I let out a scream when I felt coarse, spiny insect feet bristle against my legs. The owner rushed to the table. She blamed the bug problems on the restaurant next door. Of course, we didn’t finish our meals (nor did we pay for them). The owner gave us a coupon for our next visit, but we never want to go back and dine with the uninvited guests.
