Trash In The Bar

in Server Stories

Hello. My husband and I had what we thought was going to be a wonderful dinner at R**s in Newport Beach. We arrived a bit early for our reservation so we decided to start with a cocktail before entering the dining room. The group event coordinator which I know from previously having rented a private room in the past said hello and was very nice. We entered the lounge area; it was quite empty but it was early. There were several servers standing around the service area by the TV.

Our night started with three servers and a sales coordinator in the corner swearing and talking about getting drunk and their plans for the night. I thought that after several occasions at R**s where all of our experiences were good that the class level would be a little higher. We were seated quickly; thank God we could not listen to any more filth. The wait staff and busser were very attentive. The food was very good yet nevertheless outclassed by the trash in the bar that they call a manager. We will no longer allow R**s to handle our private events and nor should you. It is in the careless hands of a drunken pirate.

I'm not sure how to this this gently.

You 'rent a room'. That's pretty low class. Other people book a room for a public event.

Then you have a cocktail and leave the details vague….was it 1, 2, 12?

Interesting how after your cocktail everything seemed to go wrong.

Let's go back to that 1st cocktail, before you started listening to the teenagers talk about what they talk about.

Bars are meant for foul language. And if you didn't like it SAY SOMETHING. I never understand why people tolerate stuff.

Oh noes, foul language at a bar? Call the presses! Sorry to hear such behavior offended your delicate sensibilities.

They were wrong to have employees speaking like that in front of guests. However, swearing them off and denigrating their business for it seems childish. Maybe you need to grow up.

Very gently, I would say that it's easy for management to become lax.

Many times I have had to explicitly tell employees that 'this is a job', that you are here to work, not to socialize, and if you can't cut it, the door is over there….. >>> *pointing at door*.

I think the poster is a bit of a spoiled bitch, but at the same time appreciate the collegial atmosphere among young employees that destroys a professional presentation.

The delicate flower who lodged this complaint, after hangin' out in the bar, should grow the hell up. Her entire tone smacks of entitlement. It smells like she wants her entire meal comped "because she's a group event client."

Also, if I was with my wife and conversation *anywhere* in a restaurant where we were trying to have a relaxing night out got too rough for my taste, it'd be *I* who intervenes with the offenders. I certainly wouldn't sit there and allow my wife to get upset. I'd have confronted them.

"I showed up early and was absolutely SHOCKED that people were engaging in normal conversations like they are human beings or something! Well, I never!"
