Long Wait for Pizza Delivery

in Fast Food Stories

This experience happened about a week ago when my family decided to order a pizza for dinner. The pizza place was a small deep-dish restaurant that also delivered. We love deep-dish pizza and we knew it would be about 35-45 minutes until it was done. They quoted us a time of about an hour and we were fine with that and we had snacks. An hour went by and we continued to wait. And wait.

Finally we called the pizza place (after almost two hours) and they assured us it was on its way. So we waited some more. Finally after 45 minutes we called back. The delivery guy had gotten locked out of his car with the pizzas in it. By then it was 9:30 and we were hungry. They had to remake our pizza, and it was going to take another hour before it arrived. My brother had to wake up early for a standardized test and did not want to be going to bed late.

I understand accidents happen, but waiting three hours for a pizza was ridiculous. They sent us a gift card and a bottle of wine, but it was still a bad experience.

damn… 3 hours for a PIZZA??!!! That's crazy. Nice they sent wine though! Adds a real personal touch to a gift card. What a dick head though, get locked outta your delivery vehicle…?

I think at 9.30 when they'd said another hour I'd have cancelled the order and cooked something myself.

Yeah, I would have canceled when they said they would need to remake it. I love that they sent a gift card and a bottle of wine, though, seriously good customer service!

I'd have cancelled after the two hours. Allowing double the time they told you it would take is reasonable enough.

Something similar to this happened to me when ordering from a popular chain pizza place. I called and was quoted 25 minutes for delivery. They asked for my phone number which is standard when ordering delivery, and I told them. An hour passed, but I assumed the pizza place was busier than they had thought, so I waited another hour before calling to ask where my pizza was. The girl on the phone told me “oh the delivery driver couldn’t find your house so she came back here”. I asked why I wasn’t called to inform me (they had my number) and she just said “I don’t know”. She then informed me that I should come pick up the pizza. I said I ordered delivery over 2 hours ago, so no thanks I am not coming to pick up the pizza (it’s probably is cold by now). She hung up on me. I decided whatever, I’ll just make something at home. A few weeks later I tried to place an order at that same pizza place and was told I couldn’t because my number was flagged as someone who never paid for the last pizza I ordered. I tried to explain, but to this day if I want pizza I have to call with my cell not my home phone (and no one else has had trouble finding my house). Ridiculous!

I agree, you should've cancelled the order and just made something yourself (or gone out to eat early) It's nice that you got some sort of compensation, though.

I feel for you Sarah, if it had been me though I would've gone to the place the second time instead of ordering though. And I would've had a talk with the manager about the crappy service. Yes, what happened to you is totally ridiculous and you should go have a talk with the manager sometime if you haven't already. But if you tried, then I think you should just stop going there and look for a different pizza place with better service.

And of course I mean a firm but polite and nice chat with the manager, not going in with aggression / bad temper, complaining about it in a whiny voice, fake tears, violence, or anything like that. 😉

I understand that at that point you simply are not expecting or wanting to cook something, so I understand deciding to still just wait for the pizza.
