2012

When I was 19 I worked at a small chain restaurant/ice cream place. A woman came in with her three small, unruly children 15 minutes before the kitchen was set to close and I was the only server there. I come to the table with a smile, and she glares at me. OOOH this is […]

Dinners From Hell received an update from Michelle, the author of the Mr. Cussing Creeper story. The story, which was posted on September 2, 2011, concerned two hellish experiences which occurred during a meal that she had with her family at a restaurant. The first part of the story dealt with parents who rudely allowed […]

On Mother’s Day just this year, we went to a chain restaurant that my mother prefers. It has lovely rocking chairs for you to sit in on the big front porch as you wait. We had a party of nine so we knew there would be a bit of a wait. Once we were inside […]

My family and I went to a popular restaurant that we go to several times a month, only this time we went to a different location than the one we normally go to. Our waiter, Aaron, approached us and introduced himself and then asked us if we had ever dined at this particular restaurant before. I […]

This isn’t really a dinner from hell but a good lesson learned. My wife and I were invited to go to an upscale steak house with a neighborhood couple (Bill and Sarah) and Sarah’s parents. Bill works in sales and does extensive traveling. While traveling, he is on an expense account and typically not too […]

At my restaurant where I am a server, we have a month where we try to raise money for St. Jude’s Children Hospital. Diners can raise anything from $1 on, and we are encouraged to ask every table. Most tables respond well and donate at least a dollar.

Back when I was two years old my family and I were staying at Hampton Beach, New Hampshire for vacation. My family decided to eat at a restaurant near the ballroom casino that is no longer there anymore. It’s a different restaurant now. It was a seafood place and my grandmother decided before we were […]

Slow Service & No Ice

in Server Stories

My friend and I were at a burger place (think Brooklyn). We were repeat customers; never had a bad experience. We walked in the place, sat down, and a few minutes later we decided to move to the outside tables. The server seemed annoyed about this but he was still fine. We probably waited 10 […]

Two friends and I went to “Pepper’s” one day right before the dinner rush. We were seated in a booth and one of my friends had the misfortune of being back-to-back to a girl (about age 6) who was practically bouncing off the walls of the booth she shared with her mother, who was basically […]

Last year a new burger joint opened up that I fell in love with at first bite. Their meat comes from local farmers and is top quality, their veggies are locally grown when available, and their chefs work magic in their kitchen. My husband and I go whenever we have an excuse to drive into […]

Backstory: I’d been working as a server in a Tex-Mex restaurant for about a year when I had a patron and his wife sit down for dinner. Let’s call him Frank. They ordered a double order of beef fajitas. I made my way out of the kitchen to check on them to see how everything was. […]

Dip Cup Couple

July 25, 2012

in Diner Stories

I work at an upscale bar, a dive bar, and a family run Italian restaurant. I have been in the restaurant business for almost twenty years and I have never encountered such stupidity. Anyhow, I usually get asked for a “dip cup” or a “spit cup” in the bars, but tonight I was asked at […]
