Children Run Amok to Candy Machine

in Kid Stories

I have worked at the same steakhouse for over 3, going on 4 years. There is one table that completely sticks out in my mind every time I think of a horrible day.

It was a table of 2 adults and 7 kids, so 9 total. Not a huge deal; I handle big tables all the time, so I figured this would be a piece of cake. Their kids ended up spilling spaghetti, macaroni and cheese, and cookies all over the floor. I figured whatever, I clean stuff like this all the time. The whole night the kids were running back and forth to the candy machines like all kids do, and parents let them due to the fact that they would like to actually have a conversation instead of listen to whiny kids.

When they got up to leave, the floor was stained, candy was everywhere, and the guy had the nerve to come up to me and chuckle while saying, “Sorry Miss, our kids spent all your tip money on the candy machine.” Yeah, real freakin’ funny jerk.

An example of why more restaurants need to ban kids!

Not all kids, just ones with parents like these. My kids would never dream of behaving like this. Sure, ones with bad parents, or parents who refuse to say no, or who value their time at the restaraunt over the safety of their kids, or the comfort of the other patrons, should be banned. Good parenting can make a huge difference. When kids are quiet, well behaved, and show good manners, there is absolutely no reason they should be "banned" from a restaraunt.

The problem is that there are too few parents these days willing to say no to their kids.

The bigger problem is with kids now suing their parents for spanking, grounding, taking away their stuff, etc as punishments; some parents are too scared about the ramifications of punishing their children.

People like that is why we need websites like this. Apparently, he nor his other parent companions, know how to say "No" to a child or take the time to teach their children appropriate restaurant/table mannners. If they have been there for a long time and still want to chat yet the children are getting bored, maybe they should retire to someone's home or go to one of those indoor children's playgrounds.
I hope Karma bites him right in the behind!!

I would have exploded right there in the middle of the restaurant! I hate when people make catty comments about my tip. I do not come to your office and tempt you with money or tell you I am going to withhold it from you and whatever bills you need to pay. Servers are one of the most undervauled jobs in the world today. Children in restaurants are usually monsters and hopefully these people will get a taste of their own medicine one day.

It wouldn't have mattered if that guy had his horde of children there or not. He wasn't going to tip you anyway. That was just an excuse. I doubt that jerk ever tipped anyone in his life!
