This incident happened about a year ago. I work at a very popular restaurant and tea room. On one of my days off I was passing by and decided to pop in and say hello to my workmates. I was having a chat with my supervisor when I saw one of the waitresses having some trouble with a customer. This woman was really giving her a hard time, yelling and berating her to the point where she started to cry. Everyone was staring in shock as this red faced bitch screamed her head off.
By this point I saw red myself. I don’t know what happened to prompt this woman to act up like this but no one deserves this kind of treatment. Storming over I proceeded to give her a piece of my mind and try to comfort my workmate. “HEY, BACK OFF! SHE’S ONLY DOING HER JOB, YOU NEED TO SHUT UP!” The look on her face was priceless. I thought I was going to receive some crap from her as well but she scuttled away. After comforting my workmate, my supervisor explained that it was great to come to her defense like that, but if I had been in uniform at the time I would have been in big trouble.

The supervisor is right — it *was* great of you to help your coworker. You can also see his statement as "fair warning" that if something else like that happens none of the restaurant staff is going to be supported by management. Probably why the diner acted like that, she knew she'd get away with it even if whatever happened was the diner's fault.
Seems like the supervisor should have been the one sticking up for his employee.
Gee, and the supervisor wasn't already over there to figure out why the lady was screaming? Sounds to me like your cowardly/uncaring/asshole manager deserves a boot in his ass. Act like a leader, take care of your own, and your employees will bend over backwards to do what you want. Act like an asshole and your employees will do whatever THEY want. Doesn't take a genius to figure out that making your customers respect your staff makes for better workers.
Perfect revenge…
