Little Miss Personality

in Server Stories

I used to work a Saturday job at a local restaurant when I was at college to earn some extra cash. We were quite popular, so we had several dozen new staff members coming in all the time. Most of them stayed only temporarily. But there was a new girl that I and quite frankly the entire restaurant staff would have liked to see be thrown out!

When she first arrived and I was introduced to her, I at first thought she seemed like a nice enough person. But as the saying goes, appearances can be deceiving. From the moment she stepped foot into the restaurant, she had the impression that she was the new queen of the place. She had the habit of barking orders at the other wait staff and even the chefs in the kitchen. She had no right to do this (1) as she was new and (2) everyone was either at the same level as her or were higher up the ladder. Needless to say she did not make a good start.

She also had a real temper. She would get mad and I mean MAD! at the slightest thing that went wrong and would vent her frustration on everyone around her. On the second Saturday I was working with her, she rudely interrupted the manager who was talking to his colleague. When he told her that he was talking to someone, she threw a temper tantrum and got into a shouting match with the manager with the entire staff watching. Getting into a heated argument with your boss on your first few days is definitely not a good idea. I was certain that if little miss personality didn’t sort out her attitude soon she was going to get fired. I tried to be nice to her and once asked how she was doing. Her response: “CRAP!!!” She then started shrieking that I was being slow and accused me of being lazy. That was when I decided I needed to talk to my boss.

The next Saturday I flagged my manager down (the same one she got into a fight with) and told him what she said to me. He told me that he also had enough of her as well, but what I didn’t know was that she was here temporarily and this was her last day! I thanked the heavens and managed to survive 1 more day with her bad mood. It turned out that she was going to another restaurant and I felt sorry for the poor souls who would be stuck with her permanently! As she was leaving, I wished her luck with her new career and had to restrain myself from screaming “AND DON’T EVER COME BACK!” as she walked out of the door. After she left, everything went back to normal and the restaurant was soon filled with happy people again. I do feel rather sorry for her as there is no sense being in a bad mood all the time.

Welcome to the real world sweetheart. Before you retire you will work with all types of people, some nice, some not so nice. Toughen up a little bit and stop whining about someone who wasn't nice to you.

This girl clearley needs a few anger management sessions. Treating other like this is compleatley wrong. The OP is right, you should never be in a bad mood all the time. There is always something to be happy about. What this girl needs is a big friendly hug.

You are an idiot! What this girl needs is a kick in the butt. What the whiny little complainer needs is a lesson in reality.

Jack, I agree…Peace Lover is an idiot for all the reasons you mentioned. In addition, his/her spelling makes me think they might be "special needs".

C'mon people, look it over, how the heck did some of you pass elementary school? Spell check is standard. FYI the word is spelled "completely", not "compleatley". In previous posts, you need to remember that you're is a contraction of you are. Don't be such an idiot.

I was talking about the angry girl in the story Jack not the OP. And violence solves nothing. I believe that if we all just got along then our working environments will be much happier places. Oh and if you think I'm and idiot than I think you are a bully, but no hard feelings. It's not in my nature, but thanks for you're comment anyway – sort of.

How is he supposed to call you when you didn't leave a phone number? Why would you want to hook up with Jack anyway when he's obviously such a loser? How about if you give me your number so I can call you instead?

You assumed she was the low one on the totem pole, sounds like she was working different faucets for a promotion to higher management.
