Mad Over Menudo

in Food & Drink Stories

We have been regulars at a local New Mexican restaurant since it opened over 12 years ago. Last winter my husband and I ordered the seasonal posole soup. The waitress brought the bowls of soup out, only his was menudo, made with tripe. They looked and smelled differently, and when we pointed this out to our waitress she stated that it couldn’t be menudo since she had ladled them out herself. She never checked back, and later she removed my husband’s untouched bowl of obvious menudo. We paid and tipped as normal (which made me irritated). The next time we went to the restaurant we complained to our favorite waitress.

I would never pay for something I did not touch and I would've also talked to a manager regarding my complaint before leaving the same night.

Complaining to your favorite waitress on a subsequent visit does nothing.

Next time speak up – you shouldn't have paid.

You are right, we should have said something that night but we didn't. My husband hates to make a fuss over anything and believes (wrongly) that he should never complain. Telling our favorite waitress did do the trick, she is fairly high up in the chain of command and we got an apology the next time the waitress saw us. Good enough for us.

As SkippyMom said, complaining to your favorite waitress on your next visit achieved nothing. You should have complained to the manager when the waitress brought your husband the wrong soup and did nothing to rectify the problem. I most assuredly wouldn't have tipped the waitress either.

There is a vast difference between Posole and Menudo and if your server doesn't know the difference someone needed to clue her in.

Sitting there and waiting for her or someone else to notice that your husband didn't eat is just dumb.

Speak up, to the Manager, to a different server, to someone to let them know you were not happy.

You paid for your meal, you could have said something to the cashier. It seems to me I am almost always asked if everything was good when I pay.

omg poor thing. 12 years of good service and food and then this? You should leave and never return. In fact, burn down their resturant. It's the only way to make it fair.

People never cease to amaze me. You ordered one thing, got another, didn't eat it, and then didn't even complain. WOW! Tell you what, I have a 1993 Toyota I'll sell you, but I'll tell you it's a 2010 Lexus.

Talk about being a ninny. Tell your husband to grow a set.

Jeez almighty!

You're ridiculous. If there was a problem, you should have spoken to the manager THEN, not waited until now to post it online. No sympathy.

I once had an experience in a seafood restaurant when I ordered scrod and got served salmon. I seriously dislike salmon, I don't want the smell of that type of fish under my nose. I told the waitress that I had ordered scrod and she insisted I had ordered salmon. Uh-uh, no way, under no circumstance would I ever order salmon. She refused to take my dish back to the kitchen and have them cook the scrod I ordered. OK so I got a bit rude and (accidently) dropped the salmon dinner on the floor (oops!) I then asked for a replacement dinner that was SCROD. She called me a bitch, I called her manager, called the restaurant owner over to my table and had the real bitch fired. I did get my scrod dinner, it was not great and the upscale restaurant died a fast death due to ho-hum offerings, ridiculous prices and rude staff….oh and did I mention that my father is the local health inspector? Guess their upscale kithcen didn't pass inspection. Oh well!

The waitress handled this extremely poorly (I mean, she called you a bitch, seriously?! I'd never do that) but then again I have to say I think you acted a bit like a petulant child by throwing your dinner off the table. Seriously, that's what toddlers do.
Hope you had better experiences since then- not all servers are rude/unable to account for their mistakes! 🙂
