I was once told by a friend who worked as a manager for a restaurant that she hired an extremely lazy waitress. Not only did she find any excuse in the book to try to avoid work as much as possible, she made a serious lack of judgement when dealing with a table. When a diner asked her to bring something the waitress whined, “I can’t be bothered” and walked off! I’m not sure what happened to her but she was either fired or severely disciplined.

I don't think she should have been fired. She should have been gently reprimanded, and asked to try to do better in the future. The poor girl probably had personal problems. Perhaps she had female problems. We all know how vexing that can be. She should have received daily counseling, and help modifying her attitude.
Remember there are no bad workers, just bad management.

I can be very understanding. Perhaps the poor girl just wasn't meant to be a waitress. Maybe she could get training to take tickets at the movie theater, or mopping the floor at an adult bookstore. I'm sure there is a place for her in this world.
Hopefully she was fired. You’re paid to do your job, not slack off. With the economy being so bad nowadays, you don’t do things that will get you fired or reprimanded.
